The Celebrate Saudi Arabia Art Competition engages the KAUST community in celebrating Saudi culture and heritage through art. It represents an ideal way to honor and recognize the rich history and culture of the Kingdom.

Rules

 

1. Online Application

All entries must be submitted through our online application form.

 

2. Age Requirement

The Saudi Art Competition is open to all KAUST community artists 16 years of age or older.

 

3. Art Categories

Your artwork must be about the places, traditions, heritage, people, or culture of Saudi Arabia and fall under one of the categories below:

Photography | Drawing | Painting | Mixed Media |

 

4. Multiple Submission:

Artists may submit one artwork per category (up to three entries), all entries should be mounted, framed and/or ready to hang with wire securely on the back.

 

5. The Work Must Be Original:

Your art must be your original concept and not a copy of anyone else’s material. You must be the creator of the art and image file you submit to the competition. We reserve the right to request proof that your entry is your original artwork created solely by you; non-compliance will result in disqualification.  You will be asked upon submission to confirm that your piece is original and not infringing on any copyrighted material.

 

6. Repeat Entries:

Previous Saudi Arabia Art Competition entries are not permitted.  Art that has been exhibited at Artists of KAUST may be submitted.

7. Copyright:

The artist retains all copyrights to their artwork without exception.

 

8. Non-exclusive Permissions:

By entering this art competition, you are granting us a non-exclusive perpetual license to reproduce images of your artwork on our art competition website and in our newsletters, and in the marketing of the art competitions to benefit KAUST Social Responsibility Programs.

 

9. File Sizes and Formats:

Your images are best represented at 1200px on the longest side and at a resolution of 72dpi. The acceptable file formats are: jpg, gif, and png.10. Submission and Deadline: Artworks may be submitted up to the last day of the scheduled submission posted. No artworks will be accepted past the posted deadline.

 
 
 

JUDGING CRITERIA

 
  • Does the submitted artwork fit the theme of the competition?
  • Is there a creative interpretation of the subject/ theme?
  • Is the originality of the work interesting?
  • Is there overall quality and command of the medium being used?
  • Does the work impact the viewer in relationship to the theme?
  • Does the work stand on its own as a complete and outstanding creative image?
  • Is the submitted artwork appropriate for public viewing?
 
 

Evaluation

 
Artwork is evaluated on criteria ranging from subject matter, to authenticity, to approach. An expert panel of KAUST community volunteers, each of whom has a strong background in the arts, serve as judges. The competition will also include a community voting component, with community members able to view and then vote on their favorite piece of art.
